Telugu is the most spoken language in India. The Telugu script uses the Devanagari script. The Gondic language is further divided into three dialects of which, Toda, Andhra and Rayalaseema are prominent. The literature of the Gondi language is also called Gondi which has over 9,000 literary works. People can read or write Gondi in Telugu Script. This program is for the use of students, faculty and staff of St.Augustine's College,Chennai.The Telugu script is well suited for transliteration because the shapes of the letters are so distinct that they do not require looking up in dictionaries or learning stroke order for proper spelling. Moreover, even illiterate people can easily decipher the words by simply recognizing how well they are written. It is the medium of instruction, instruction books, textbooks, religious materials, other educational materials and other literature in Telugu. It is also used for writing other languages that are also written in the Telugu script. One should remember that other languages are written in the Konkani script. Therefore, one needs to learn at least one of these two scripts before learning how to write these languages with the Telugu script. The Tamil language uses another writing system called Tamil- Grantha which is not related to any of the scripts written above. To write a word using the Telugu script, one should learn which vowel to use along with the consonants. In the Hindi language, there are at least three vowels that have long versions, short versions and even a nasalized version. However, Telugu has only two vowels for this purpose.
